When you’ve found a great location or just want to spend some time scavenging in your own backyard, download LeafSnap for iPhone or iPad. With this app you can browse plant and fruit species by their common or scientific names or by location. If you have a piece of white paper handy, you can use it as a backdrop to snap a photo of a species with the app’s camera integrated “snap it” feature. The app will produce a list of potential species based on the input location and photograph! This is a great way to learn about and enhance your appreciation of the nature surrounding you in both the urban and suburban setting. (FREE)
